Kindergarten Däumeling.
Before going to school, it is mandatory for kids to go to a Kindergarten/child-care center for at least one year, to guarantee a smooth and successful start.
Mandatory for whom?
Every kid who is already 5 years old before September 1st that year and has his or her main place of residence in Vienna.
Length/Extent
Every kid has to be at the Kindergarten for at least 20 hours per week on at least 4 days of the week.
Absence
There has to be a justified reason for not coming to the Kindergarten. E.g.: sickness, vacation (max. 5 weeks per year), or extraordinary reasons. The Kindergarten has to be informed, if a child is not coming.
Violation
The violation of these rules might lead to a fine of up to 220€. The Kindergarten is duty-bound to notify public authorities.
